Background

Ms. Laurie Farmer is a nursing and healthcare management leadership professional with over 35 years of experience in a variety of settings across the healthcare continuum - including OR, Surgical Services, PACU, Pre-Op, Post-Op, intensive care, sedation services, oncology/hematology, transplant, Radiology/Interventional Radiology and ER. As a principal consultant, Ms. Farmer focused on options that increase quality and patient safety through performance improvement methodologies and expertise by linking standard deficiencies with potential systems vulnerabilities to identify opportunities for improving compliance.

Ms. Farmer collaborates with clients to achieve and sustain compliance with The Joint Commission standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, and operational process improvement by bringing her extensive experience in leadership, management, safety, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance to her role as Principal Consultant for Joint Commission Resources.

As Quality leader of Surgical Services for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Ms. Farmer was responsible for staff mentoring and education, compliance, quality/patient safety, accreditation, and regulatory affairs for three pediatric hospitals and two ambulatory surgery centers. Ms. Farmer was a member of the pediatric cadre for the joint commission serving as a nurse surveyor through the accreditation survey process and surveying for the office of quality and patient safety for the joint commission. In these roles, she provided leadership and expertise to the system for patient care operations oversight and Joint Commission accreditation readiness, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement.
